Overview

When global organizations are facing complex and high-stakes disputes, they turn to Randa Adra as their strategic adviser and partner. Randa guides clients with innovative legal strategies as they navigate all stages of the dispute resolution process, from pre-dispute counseling and risk assessments to arbitration hearings, trial, and enforcement or annulment proceedings. Randa has been nationally and globally recognized by Law360, the American Bar Association, and Bloomberg Law as a rising star in international arbitration.

Randa’s practice focuses on international commercial and investment arbitration under the rules of all major arbitral institutions. She also regularly advises on U.S. arbitration and litigation matters and has particular experience with disputes at the cross-section of these practice areas. Randa leverages her experience as lead counsel on matters spanning a broad spectrum of industries—including health care, pharmaceuticals, construction, infrastructure, energy, hospitality, and consumer products—to provide industry-specific counseling and commercially minded solutions for clients that are both efficient and cost-effective.

Randa is trilingual and currently serves as co-chair of the firm’s Women’s Leadership Initiative. She has also served as a leader on the firm’s Diversity Council and co-founded Crowell’s MENA Affinity Group. An active member in numerous industry organizations, Randa currently serves on the Board of ArabArb, an association she co-founded that serves the arbitration community with roots, affinity, or interest in the Arab World.

Representative Matters

International Dispute Resolution

  • Represented a Fortune 100 medical product company in a $35 million commercial arbitration under the SIAC Arbitration Rules and governed by Singapore law.
  • Represented a Fortune 500 multinational organization in an ICC arbitration involving $100 million in claims and counterclaims stemming from a construction project in the energy industry and governed by New York law.
  • Successfully defended a Fortune 100 medical device company in a $120 million commercial arbitration under the ICC Rules of Arbitration involving alleged breaches of a supply agreement governed by New York law.
  • Represented a multinational joint venture in securing a $494 million award against an Egyptian state entity and defeating a $500 million counterclaim. The arbitration was conducted in Arabic under the ICC Rules of Arbitration and governed by Egyptian law.
  • Represented an Egyptian consortium and Kuwaiti supply chain management company in an $80 million commercial arbitration brought by a South Korean supplier under the ICC Rules of Arbitration.
  • Successfully defended a major international hotel company in a commercial arbitration under the ICC Rules of Arbitration, governed by U.S. and Lebanese law.
  • Represented a Canadian uranium mining company in its effort to enforce an international arbitration award against the government of Mongolia.
  • Represented a U.S. hotel investor in an International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes arbitration against the Arab Republic of Egypt under the U.S.-Egypt Bilateral Investment Treaty.

Domestic Dispute Resolution

  • Represented a Fortune 500 company in state and federal court actions stemming from a construction project in the energy industry.
  • Represented a multinational corporation in connection with a class action litigation and criminal antitrust investigation related to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Represented two multinational food chains in connection with false advertising class action litigations in multiple federal and state courts.
  • Successfully defended a major international hotel company against tortious interference claims governed by U.S. and Lebanese law stemming from a related international arbitration.
  • Successfully defended a chemical company in a Sherman Act Section 1 class action and opt-out litigation alleging conspiracy to fix the price of titanium dioxide, and successfully defended the company in a subsequent Third Circuit appeal.
