Overview

Robert L. Grabarek, Jr. is a partner in Crowell & Moring's Orange County office. In 2003, Bob relocated to California from the firm's Washington, D.C. office in furtherance of the continued expansion of the Intellectual Property practice in California.

Bob has a broad Intellectual Property practice including patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation. He has worked extensively with both U.S. clients and foreign-based clients, particularly in Germany and Japan. He has counseled clients in developing patent portfolios, procured numerous patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and advised clients on issues of patent infringement and validity. He has experience in a wide range of technologies including medical devices, telecommunications, software, automotive, and other mechanical and electronic systems. He also has experience in both patent litigation matters and appeals before the U.S. Patent Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He participated in a Markman hearing in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas representing a software client in a patent infringement suit.

Bob currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Naval Academy Alumni association.

Prior to practicing law, Bob was a Naval Officer and also worked for the Navy as a civilian employee. As a Naval Officer, he served onboard the guided missile destroyer USS DAHLGREN in the engineering department and as Navigator. Following his shipboard tour, he served as the personal aide to a Navy Admiral on the Staff of the Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. As a Navy civilian employee, he worked in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy in the Ballistic Missile Defense Program. Bob also retired as a Commander from the U.S. Naval Reserve after 20 years of service.

Bob is a member of the State Bar of California, Maryland, District of Columbia, and Virginia, and he is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is active in the Orange County Patent Law Association.
