With a robust focus on electronic discovery and information management, Halie Kaplan has carved out a niche in handling complex discovery processes across a broad spectrum of practice areas. Her experience spans all phases of discovery, from overseeing document review projects of varying scales to assisting with document collections, formulating discovery strategies, and preparing case teams for depositions. Halie is adept at conducting meetings and confers and provides invaluable counsel to clients and case teams on their discovery needs.

Halie leads discovery in large-scale matters, particularly in complex commercial litigations, white-collar regulatory and enforcement investigations, as well as employment, insurance, and health care matters. She is sought out for her proficiency in managing and streamlining discovery through the use of advanced technology, particularly in mobile data reviews. Halie has successfully overseen mobile document review projects involving data from over 30 custodians' mobile devices, encompassing more than two million documents. Her meticulous approach ensures efficiency and consistency in mobile review projects and productions. She collaborates closely with e-discovery vendors to organize data effectively and employs near-duplicate analysis on mobile messages to maintain consistency in cross-custodian communications. Additionally, Halie leverages technology-assisted review for quality control of non-responsive documents.

Before joining Crowell & Moring, Halie honed her skills at a boutique law firm known for commercial litigation and real estate law. She also spent over 12 years in private practice at an AmLaw 200 firm, where she focused extensively on e-discovery issues.

Halie is also deeply committed to pro bono work. Her contributions include assisting clients with asylum applications, drafting comments for the Department of Health and Human Services on a proposed rule related to Section 1557 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and leading discovery efforts in litigation concerning voting rights in Georgia. She has also supported The Advancement Project and VOTE in securing voting rights for previously incarcerated individuals in Louisiana and assisted the New York Legal Assistance Group in representing individuals with disabilities to ensure they receive the public benefits they are entitled to.
