Overview

Bill joined Crowell & Moring LLP in 2017 as the Firm’s first Compliance Counsel. Drawing on his previous experience at an AmLaw 100 firm, Bill consolidated and expanded the Firm’s compliance efforts. Now, as the Firm’s Assistant General Counsel for Compliance, Bill continues to head the Firm’s Compliance function.

Bill oversees the Firm’s compliance training and risk assessment programs, manages Firm policies and procedures, and conducts compliance audits and investigations. Bill also chairs the Firm’s information governance committee. In addition, Bill works with clients and vendors to address complex compliance issues and requirements.

Bill has significant experience in several compliance areas, including anti-bribery/anti-corruption; cybersecurity and data privacy; export controls; sanctions; and anti-money laundering. Bill is a regular speaker on compliance and ethics topics, particularly the impact of new technologies such as generative artificial intelligence on legal work.
