Lei Zhang

Scientific Advisor

Overview

Lei brings more than 20 years of industry and research experience to her role as a scientific advisor with Crowell’s Patents practice. Her professional training, extensive research, and work experience covers a broad range of engineering and scientific fields, allowing her to work with and quickly understand cutting-edge technologies. Lei focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, as well as counselling clients on semiconductor and telecommunications.

Lei’s academic and professional background includes deep knowledge of high-speed data transmission systems, semiconductor device modeling and characterization, submicron CMOS mixed-signal integrated circuit design for telecommunication, low power medical devices, and electron microscopy and image processing. She has advanced knowledge on 10+Gbps backplane serial data transmission, channel equalization and transceiver signaling, SerDes, and I/O driver and interface. Lei holds a doctorate and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering degree in optical instruments, which represents her studies in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and optics.

Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, Lei worked as a patent engineer at Maschoff Brennan’s Salt Lake City (UT) office, a patent agent trainee at the Ottawa (ON, Canada) office of MBM Intellectual Property Law LLP, and an independent technical and patent prosecution consultant. Lei applies her extensive research experience to effectively communicate with and relate to inventors, many of whom are scientists and engineers, and to quickly understand other emerging technologies.

Earlier in her career, Lei worked for global semiconductor companies, including PMC-Sierra, Altera Corporation, and ON Semiconductor, as a mixed-signal integrated circuit design and layout engineer.
