Overview

Ian Schuler has developed discovery skills and abilities in E-Discovery through years of experience both in a law firm and in an in-house setting. Ian’s practice focuses on advising clients on novel and complex discovery issues across all phases of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) lifecycle. Ian helps clients formulate defensible discovery strategies, achieve proportionality in their preservation process, and implement best practices in E-Discovery processes. Ian also has significant experience in conducting defensible collections, managing small and large-scale documents reviews, privilege review, and leveraging emerging technology to efficiently manage and streamline discovery.

His practice focuses on discovery issues in a wide range of practice areas, including antitrust, government contracts, litigation, health care, and white collar and regulatory enforcement.

Ian also has an active pro bono practice. He volunteers at Election Protection’s national voter hotline led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. The national hotline is a year-round non-partisan resource for voters regarding registration, absentee and early voting, voting at the polls, and overcoming obstacles to their participation in voting.

He has significant in-house E-Discovery experience across the aviation and technology industries. Before re-joining Crowell, Ian was Lead Counsel at a multinational technology company in the eDiscovery and Information Governance group, where he provided legal guidance to the company’s global litigation, investigation, and product teams.

Ian graduated from Rutgers University in 2005 with a B.A. in criminal justice. He earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 2010. During law school, Ian interned with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, where he represented the Commonwealth of Massachusetts prosecuting misdemeanors in District Court.
