Washington, D.C. – January 26, 2012: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce it has elected seven attorneys to the firm’s partnership effective January 1, 2012. The firm has also promoted 22 associates to the position of counsel. The new partners and counsel have been promoted from within the ranks of the firm’s Washington, D.C., New York, Orange County, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Brussels and London offices.

On September 16, 2011, the America Invents Act was signed into law by the President. The Act includes significant changes to U.S. patent law, which are summarized below. Some of these changes are effective immediately, while others will become effective over the next several years.

Today the United States Patent and Trademark Office (U.S.P.T.O.) announced a final rule implementing a prioritized examination track with a goal of providing a final disposition of an application within 12 months of prioritized status being granted. A request for prioritized examination may be submitted with any original non-provisional application filed on or after May 4, 2011.
