Washington, D.C. – May 30, 2024: Crowell & Moring hosted its 25thannual George Bailey Public Service Awards ceremony. Named after the hero of the classic movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” these awards recognize the firm’s lawyers and staff who have made a substantial impact on the lives of others through their pro bono work.

Washington – May 3, 2024: The DC Volunteer Lawyers Project honored Crowell & Moring as the 2024 Pro Bono Partner of the Year and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) as the 2024 Champion of Justice at their annual spring benefit.

Washington – October 5, 2022: Crowell & Moring received the 2022 Pro Bono Legal Service Award from the John Carroll Society in honor of the firm’s pro bono work with the Catholic Charities Legal Network of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. The award was presented on Sunday, October 2, in Washington, D.C., at the 70th annual Red Mass, a Mass service for all members of the legal profession traditionally held the Sunday before the first day of the Supreme Court’s fall term.

Washington – September 22, 2022: Children’s Law Center recognized Crowell & Moring with the 2022 Pro Bono Champion award in recognition of the firm’s longstanding commitment to pro bono and partnership with the organization. The award was presented at a benefit on September 20, 2022, in Washington, D.C. Crowell & Moring is one of only a few firms that have been honored twice with the Champion award in the Children’s Law Center’s history.

Washington – December 3, 2021: The Washington Council of Lawyers presented Crowell & Moring public service partner Susan M. Hoffman with the Presidents Award for Public Service at a ceremony on December 2, 2021. The award recognizes Hoffman’s dedication to public service and pro bono causes over the past three decades.

Washington – October 27, 2021: The National Law Journal named Crowell & Moring to the 2021 Pro Bono Hot List for the second consecutive year. This honor recognizes firms and lawyers that “have taken on some of the biggest issues of our time.” Crowell & Moring is one of only ten law firms across the United States selected for this recognition.

Washington – June 2, 2021: Crowell & Moring chair Philip T. Inglima and pro bono partner Susan M. Hoffman are the co-chairs of The Legal Aid Society of The District of Columbia's $3-million fundraising campaign, called Making Justice Real Campaign, which launched this week and will provide free legal services to poverty-stricken individuals and families living in Washington, D.C.

Washington – May 6, 2020: The National Law Journal named Crowell & Moring to the 2020 Pro Bono Hot List, an annual list of the law firms and lawyers who “are dedicated to making a monumental impact on the lives of those in need.”

Washington – January 30, 2020: The American Bar Association’s National Conference of Bar Presidents namedCrowell & Moring’s public service partner and D.C. Bar president Susan M. Hoffman as the first recipient of the Presidents Pages Award. The award is in recognition of her column in the January/February 2020 edition of Washington Lawyer and will be presented at the 2020 NCBP Midyear Meeting in February.

Washington – June 14, 2019: Crowell & Moring is pleased to announce that Susan M. “Susie” Hoffman, the firm’s public service partner, took the oath Tuesday to become the D.C. Bar Association’s 48th president. Created in 1972, the organization is the largest unified bar in the United States, with more than 100,000 members in all 50 states and more than 80 countries.

Washington – July 5, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP has been awarded the 2018 Exceptional Service Award from the American Bar Association’s Death Penalty Representation Project. The award honors the work of volunteer law firms for their “exceptional commitment to providing high quality pro bono representation for indigent death row prisoners,” and is considered among the signature achievements in the pro bono bar.

Washington, D.C. – April 24, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP is proud to announce that Susan M. Hoffman, the firm’s public service partner, is running to become president-elect of the D.C. Bar for the 2018-2019 term. Hoffman is one of two candidates on the ballot. The president-elect serves for one year before becoming president, and then serves a third year as immediate past president.

Washington, D.C. – July 20, 2015: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Washington, D.C.-based Public Service Partner Susan M. Hoffman has been elected president of the D.C. Bar Foundation, the largest funder of civil legal services programs in the District. Since joining the Foundation's board in 2011, she has served as its vice president and chaired the Development Committee. Hoffman is the second Crowell & Moring partner to take on this important leadership role.

Washington, D.C. – April 27, 2012: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Susan M. Hoffman, the firm's public service partner, was awarded the Servant of Justice Award by the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia (Legal Aid). The honor was presented to Hoffman at Legal Aid's 80th anniversary celebration and awards dinner on April 26, where the Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr., attorney general of the United States, delivered the keynote remarks.

Washington, D.C. – Sept. 15, 2004: A case Crowell & Moring argued in a California small-claims court on Sept. 9 ended in victory for seven residents of the Leisure World retirement community in Seal Beach, with residents winning the right to review their property manger's financial records. After months of legal battles over the Golden Rain Foundation's refusal to open its financial records, Judge Stephanie George ruled in favor of the residents, saying the foundation functions as a large homeowners group and therefore residents have the right to review how their monthly fees are used. Judge George found that contrary to Golden Rain's claims, the group does fall under the Davis-Sterling Act, which governs homeowners associations and requires disclosure of many financial documents. Residents are now taking the necessary steps to review the documents in their entirety.
