Webinar | 02.18.21, 8:00 AM EST - 9:00 AM EST
Like all other aspects of life, the COVID-19 global pandemic had a dramatic effect on False Claims Act (FCA) enforcement in 2020. Please join members of Crowell & Moring’s Government Contracts and Healthcare Groups as they explore the most significant FCA developments across industries in this two-part webinar series.
Part 2 of the series will highlight top FCA developments in the healthcare space and looks ahead to what is in store for providers and payors in 2021. We will discuss how COVID-19 has left a sizable imprint on that FCA landscape, including the formation of COVID-19 fraud task forces in U.S. Attorney’s offices across the country and the reason that DOJ investigations stalled for months. We will discuss the large dollar settlements and significant rulings from courts across the country.

To reduce waste and encourage recycling, an increasing number of international, federal, and local jurisdictions are embracing extended producer responsibility (EPR) laws, which have wide-reaching compliance implications for product manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and other entities falling within the varying definitions of “producers.” EPR laws assign covered producers greater responsibility for the full lifecycle of their products and establish mandatory requirements for reporting, source reduction, and financial contributions to third-party entities, known as producer responsibility organizations. EPR requirements apply to a variety of consumer product categories, including batteries, electronics, mattresses, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and, most recently, packaging and paper products.
