Chicago – March 7, 2022: World Trademark Review has recognized Crowell & Moring as a top trademark firm on both sides of the Atlantic, listing Crowell both in the U.S. national rankings and Belgium national rankings. In addition to its national rankings, Crowell & Moring received high regional recognition in Illinois and California.
WTR recognized Crowell’s 2021 combination with “Chicago IP royalty Brinks Gilson & Lione” as “[o]ne of the US IP market’s major developments.” The combination brought together the Crowell and Brinks trademark teams, which had prior to the combination each been separately ranked in the WTR 1000. The combination enhanced the team’s capabilities and provides Crowell with trademark litigators in each of the three most active U.S. courts for trademark litigation – the Southern District of New York, Central District of California, and Northern District of Ilinois – as well as a strong team of trademark litigators in Europe.
Ten Crowell attorneys received individual accolades: Chicago partners Andrew J. Avsec, David S. Fleming, Jeffery A. Handelman, Howard Michael, and Virginia Wolk Marino; California partners Valerie M. Goo and Kent B. Goss; and Brussels partners Jan-Diederik Lindemans, Kristof Roox, and counsel Judith Bussé. Fleming and Handelman were both identified as top trademark litigators in the national rankings as well.
The WTR 1000 is a guide that focuses exclusively on identifying and ranking trademark professionals and positions itself as the definitive ‘go-to’ resource for those seeking world-class legal trademark expertise. The annual list identifies firms in the trademark space by considering depth of expertise, market presence, and level of work, as well as peer and client feedback. Crowell & Moring Represents Nuclear Energy Startup Atomic Alchemy in its Acquisition by Oklo
March 11, 2025: Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO), an advanced nuclear technology company, announced on March 5, 2025 that it has closed the $25 million acquisition of Crowell client Atomic Alchemy Inc. (“Atomic Alchemy”), a leading innovator in radioisotope production. Oklo intends to use this strategic acquisition to establish a more reliable domestic supply chain for high-value radioisotopes critical to healthcare, research, and defense sectors and provides synergies to Oklo’s fuel recycling and nuclear energy businesses. Demand for radioisotopes is expected to increase significantly over the next decade, while global supply struggles to keep pace due to aging reactor infrastructure and a fragmented global supply chain, which at present is dominated by countries outside the United States. Atomic Alchemy intends to be a low-cost U.S. radioisotope producer that can provide a secure and domestic supply of radioisotopes to U.S. companies commercializing innovative radioisotope applications. With its proprietary VIPR® technology, Atomic Alchemy is building the first scalable production facility to provide a reliable, sustainable source of high-value radioisotopes. Using a vertically integrated model and fuel recycling, in partnership with Oklo, Atomic Alchemy is transforming isotope production to address global shortages, support critical applications, and strengthen national security. The core deal team included Samuel Holland Edwards, Jon O’Connell, Justin Lurie, and Ryan Flynn.
