Two Crowell & Moring Partners Named Notable Women in Law by Crain’s New York Business

New York – December 21, 2021: Crain’s New York Business named Crowell & Moring partners Sarah Gilbert & Jennifer Grady to its annual Notable Women in Law feature. Nominees are assessed for exceptional professional achievements, pro bono work or involvement in community organizations, and demonstrated leadership.
In announcing this year’s list, Crain’s notes that despite the gains for women in the legal field in both representation and pay, they still lag their male counterparts by a wide margin and the pandemic has made the situation worse. The effects on women lawyers, especially those with children, “have made it even harder than usual to rack up billable hours and shine in the boardroom. It is against this challenging backdrop that the women chosen for Crain’s 2022 Notable Women in Law list are even more remarkable.”
Crain’s profile of Gilbert notes her role as the youngest partner to serve on Steering Committee of the firm’s Litigation Group and her success defending a number of top-tier financial institutions in high-stakes litigation. The publication cites her significant victory on behalf of a private equity fund in a case involving allegations of misappropriation of fund assets, and her extensive experience in class actions, consumer fraud, unfair competition, and commercial contracts. Gilbert’s role as a key member of a team representing eight Blue Cross Blue Shield companies in the largest pending antitrust multidistrict litigation in the U.S. is also highlighted, as well as her active pro bono practice.
Crain’s highlights Grady’s role as the first woman to co-chair the firm’s Corporate Group, a role she took after successfully spearheading the combination of storied Wall Street boutique Kibbe & Orbe with Crowell & Moring during the uncertainty of 2020. Originally the managing partner at Kibbe & Orbe, the publication notes Grady was responsible for holding the lawyers together as they searched for a combination partner during the pandemic, citing her nomination as a 2021 Distinguished Leader by the New York Law Journal, as well as her work representing investment banks, broker-dealers and funds, among other financial institutions, in connection with derivatives transactions, distressed debt, and bankruptcy claims.
“As a firm, we are absolutely delighted that Crain’s has recognized Sarah and Jen as exceptional leaders, and among such distinguished company,” said Glen G. McGorty, managing partner of Crowell & Moring’s New York office. “We are extremely grateful for their roles as superlative mentors and role models in our New York office, and for the impact their leadership will have on our lawyers in the years to come.”
Crain’s New York Business selected the lawyers to recognize by consulting “with trusted sources in the legal industry and in the general New York business world.” The full list can be viewed here.

Crowell & Moring Represents Nuclear Energy Startup Atomic Alchemy in its Acquisition by Oklo
March 11, 2025: Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO), an advanced nuclear technology company, announced on March 5, 2025 that it has closed the $25 million acquisition of Crowell client Atomic Alchemy Inc. (“Atomic Alchemy”), a leading innovator in radioisotope production. Oklo intends to use this strategic acquisition to establish a more reliable domestic supply chain for high-value radioisotopes critical to healthcare, research, and defense sectors and provides synergies to Oklo’s fuel recycling and nuclear energy businesses. Demand for radioisotopes is expected to increase significantly over the next decade, while global supply struggles to keep pace due to aging reactor infrastructure and a fragmented global supply chain, which at present is dominated by countries outside the United States. Atomic Alchemy intends to be a low-cost U.S. radioisotope producer that can provide a secure and domestic supply of radioisotopes to U.S. companies commercializing innovative radioisotope applications. With its proprietary VIPR® technology, Atomic Alchemy is building the first scalable production facility to provide a reliable, sustainable source of high-value radioisotopes. Using a vertically integrated model and fuel recycling, in partnership with Oklo, Atomic Alchemy is transforming isotope production to address global shortages, support critical applications, and strengthen national security. The core deal team included Samuel Holland Edwards, Jon O’Connell, Justin Lurie, and Ryan Flynn.
