The National Law Journal Names Michelle D. Coleman a 2023 D.C. Rising Star

Washington – October 24, 2023: The National Law Journal has named Michelle D. Coleman, counsel in Crowell & Moring’s Government Contracts Group, to its 2023 list of D.C. Rising Stars. The awards recognize the Washington, D.C. region’s 40 most promising lawyers age 40 and under “who have wielded influence in their practice areas in the D.C. area and beyond.”

The NLJ honored Coleman for her role in some of the industry’s highest-stakes, high-dollar matters. In the past year alone, she led a team in confirming an arbitration award for $11.3 million plus interest for Lockheed Martin. She was also part of a team that secured three summary judgment motion victories for Lockheed in a $143 million appeal before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals. 

Coleman advises clients from diverse industries in connection with contract disputes and other government contract matters, including Contract Disputes Act claims and requests for equitable adjustments, terminations, prime-sub disputes, other transaction authority, and AI. Prior to joining Crowell, she served as an attorney in the Air Force’s Acquisition Law and Litigation Directorate, where she provided acquisition and litigation risk advice on procurements valued over $14 billion on major Air Force procurements. She also served as a trial attorney in the Air Force Legal Operations Agency, Commercial Law and Litigation Directorate.

Coleman serves as co-chair of Crowell’s Black Affinity Group, a member of the pro bono committee, a member of the Racial Equity Justice Task force  utilization and integration subcommittee, and as an AI liaison to the AI Steering Committee for the Government Contracts Group. She regularly mentors junior associates and law students through the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s (LCLD) law school mentorship program, and was also selected by the firm to be a LCLD Fellow for the 2023-2024 year. In addition to her firm activities, Coleman actively and consistently participates in pro bono matters for the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless.
