Firm News | 2 min read | 05.29.24

Washington – May 29, 2024: Crowell & Moring has been selected as one of the top five “Best Law Firms for Women and Diversity” by Seramount, a professional services and research firm dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. This marks the 13thyear in a row that Crowell has been recognized as one of the nation’s best law firms for employing best practices in recruiting, retaining, promoting, and developing women lawyers and lawyers from underrepresented backgrounds.

“Earning a place among Seramount’s ‘Best Law Firms for Women & Diversity’ once more is an honor, and ranking in the top five this year is a recognition that we do not take lightly,” said Don Smith, the firm’s Chief Talent & Inclusion Officer. “This recognition fuels our resolve to not only celebrate how far we have come, but also critically reflect on the journey ahead. We will continue working to break down barriers and create pathways for women and people from underrepresented backgrounds, leading with sincerity, responsibility, and inclusivity.”

“Our Best Law Firms for Women and Diversity demonstrate unwavering commitment, despite the uncertainties in the legal field,” said Subha V. Barry, president of Seramount. “I'm proud of the steady and positive change they are driving, even if it’s a gradual process. I applaud these industry leaders for their dedication to cultivating inclusive firm cultures.”

Crowell has a long history of women in leadership. In 1995, the firm became the first major D.C.-based law firm to elect a female chair, Rosemary Collyer, who later became a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Today, the firm’s executive committee is led by Chahira Solh, a woman of color. In addition, nearly half of the firm’s management board are women leaders, including Trina Fairley Barlow, co-chair of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group; Jennifer K. Grady, co-chair of the Transactional Department; Kirsten L. Nathanson, co-chair of the firm's Environment & Natural Resources Group and member of the executive committee; and Jennifer S. Romano, co-chair of the firm's Litigation and Trial Department.
