Brussels – February 25, 2025: Dr. Anna Gergely has joined Crowell & Moring’s Environment and Natural Resources Practice Group, bringing three decades of experience advising on regulatory issues.
Dr. Gergely’s practice focuses on EU regulatory matters in areas built on chemicals legislation such as the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation and the Classification, Labeling, and Packaging (CLP) Regulation, also covering compliance of biocides, agro-biotechnology products, cosmetics, toys, batteries, food and feed contact materials, including sustainability and recycling issues for packaging and packaging waste, pharma ingredients, medical devices, and a range of consumer and industrial products.
In Brussels, Dr. Gergely will work closely together with senior counsel Marcus Navin-Jones, an experienced counselor and litigator in the environmental and sustainability arena.
Dr. Gergely focused on nanotechnologies early on as related to a broad spectrum of industrial sectors. She chaired the Nanotechnologies Task Force of AmCham EU and the Regulation Working Group of NANOfutures, a flagship project sponsored by the European Commission. Dr. Gergely was appointed a member of the Scientific and Technical Board of the International Risk Governance Council, an independent science-based think tank with a mission to manage emerging risks with impact on human health and the environment and overall sustainability, where she followed the impact of REACH, the EU chemical legislation.
“Expanding our regulatory practice is a strategic priority of our Brussels office,” said Kristof Roox, co-managing partner of Crowell’s Brussels office. “As a seasoned regulatory consultant, Anna possesses firsthand regulatory knowledge that will be invaluable for advising clients on EU law and policy.”
Dr. Gergely’s addition in Brussels builds on the recent hire of senior counsel Marcus Navin-Jones and on recent growth in Crowell’s Chambers-ranked Environment and Natural Resources Practice Group. The firm recently added Jon Welner, an environmental and land use lawyer; Juge Gregg, former senior corporate counsel on the sustainability legal team for Amazon, as well as Ruta Kalvaitis Skučas, who brings more than two decades of experience advising clean energy developers, traders, and technology companies on energy issues before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the U.S. Department of Energy, and state public utility commissions.
“Europe stands at the forefront of adopting new environmental law,” said Dr. Gergely. “I’m excited to collaborate with my colleagues across the U.S. and Europe to advise multinational clients on the rapidly changing regulations coming out of the EU.”
Dr. Gergely joins the firm from Mayer Brown, where she successfully combined her academic and industry background to provide creative regulatory solutions to different industry matters based on her deep scientific and legal knowledge of relevant regulatory areas. Before her legal career at different global law firms, she had an in-house technical position at the Monsanto Chemical Company in Belgium.
