Strengthens global digital and trade capabilities
Washington – August 14, 2024: Crowell & Moring International LLC has added global digital and trade strategist Nigel Cory as a director, expanding the global advisory firm’s capability to advise governments and non-profits on trade, innovation, and digital technologies.
Most recently, Cory was associate director of trade policy at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, where he focused on cross-border data flows, data governance, intellectual property, and the ways in which they each relate to digital trade and the broader digital economy. At Crowell & Moring International, Cory will advise clients on those issues, as well as global health priorities. Cory will work closely with lawyers at the law firm Crowell & Moring, including those in the International Trade, Privacy & Cybersecurity, and Health Care groups.
“Nigel’s extensive experience advising global entities on how to adapt to shifting technology environments and respond to increasing privacy concerns makes him the perfect choice to bolster our dynamic team,” said Geralyn Ritter, president and CEO of Crowell & Moring International. “With deep expertise and professional experience in trade policy, as well as AI in healthcare, he will be a valuable resource to our clients.”
Cory is a member of the United Kingdom’s International Data Transfers Expert Council and Data Advisory Board and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) Data Free Flow with Trust Experts Community. He previously worked as a researcher in the Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Prior to that, he worked for eight years in Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which included positions working on G20 global economic and trade issues and the Doha Development Round. Cory also had diplomatic postings in Malaysia, where he worked on bilateral and regional trade, economic, and security issues, and in Afghanistan, where he was the deputy director of a joint U.S.-Australia provincial reconstruction team.
“From my years of experience working with governments, major multinational companies, and one of DC’s leading think tanks, I know the kind of counsel that companies need to help shape the business environment and leverage data and digital technologies for growth. This has only gotten trickier with the ever-shifting geopolitics of trade and technology,” Cory said. “Crowell & Moring International has the policy chops and reputation to help clients engage in proactive policy discussions and ensure their goals are met. I look forward to working alongside this remarkable and dynamic global team.”

Crowell & Moring Represents Nuclear Energy Startup Atomic Alchemy in its Acquisition by Oklo
March 11, 2025: Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO), an advanced nuclear technology company, announced on March 5, 2025 that it has closed the $25 million acquisition of Crowell client Atomic Alchemy Inc. (“Atomic Alchemy”), a leading innovator in radioisotope production. Oklo intends to use this strategic acquisition to establish a more reliable domestic supply chain for high-value radioisotopes critical to healthcare, research, and defense sectors and provides synergies to Oklo’s fuel recycling and nuclear energy businesses. Demand for radioisotopes is expected to increase significantly over the next decade, while global supply struggles to keep pace due to aging reactor infrastructure and a fragmented global supply chain, which at present is dominated by countries outside the United States. Atomic Alchemy intends to be a low-cost U.S. radioisotope producer that can provide a secure and domestic supply of radioisotopes to U.S. companies commercializing innovative radioisotope applications. With its proprietary VIPR® technology, Atomic Alchemy is building the first scalable production facility to provide a reliable, sustainable source of high-value radioisotopes. Using a vertically integrated model and fuel recycling, in partnership with Oklo, Atomic Alchemy is transforming isotope production to address global shortages, support critical applications, and strengthen national security. The core deal team included Samuel Holland Edwards, Jon O’Connell, Justin Lurie, and Ryan Flynn.
