New Jersey Attorney General Names Derick Dailey to Statewide Youth Justice Working Group

Firm News | 2 min read | 07.26.24

Trenton – July 26, 2024: New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin named Crowell & Moring counsel Derick Dailey to a new statewide working group, Youth Justice Working Group: From Secure Care to Restorative Care.

The Working Group was created to put forth recommendations for the future use of New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission’s secure care facilities. As a result of youth justice reform in the state and reduced numbers of young people sent to detention centers, the New Jersey Training School and the Female Secure Care and Intake Facility will close and the goal is to redevelop them to benefit communities that have historically been disparately impacted by racial and structural inequalities inherent in the criminal and youth justice systems. It is the next step of a process that began in 2018 when New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy created the Task Force for the Continued Transformation of Youth Justice in New Jersey.

Dailey is a member of the Crowell Litigation Group and based in New York. A former federal prosecutor, Dailey represents clients facing state attorneys general inquiries and investigations, as well as in complex commercial litigation and investigative matters. He previously served as senior counsel to Platkin and a member of the executive leadership team, advising Platkin on both civil and criminal matters. Dailey oversaw the state’s Division on Civil Rights and Juvenile Justice Commission, spearheaded statewide public safety programs, led the office’s Racial Justice Initiative and helped lead the Voter Protection Initiative and Reproductive Rights Strike Force.
