New York – February 1, 2023: The Lawyers Alliance for New York has recognized Crowell & Moring’s Nicole Janigian Simonian and Jackson Pai for their volunteer work on behalf of The Brave House.

The Brave House is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization providing legal and holistic support to young immigrant women ages 16-24, with a focus on survivors of gender-based violence. It provides trauma-informed therapy, career advice, English lessons, and a calendar of wellness events such as art, meditation, dancing, and self-defense. The Brave House envisions a world where women and girls can thrive, lead, learn, and belong, regardless of their nationality or past trauma.

Simonian and Pai assisted the organization with understanding the employment and tax compliance obligations they would incur if it were to hire a Mexican national to work remotely from Mexico as an outreach coordinator. With their help, The Brave House was better positioned to make a job offer and hire the candidate.

Simonian is co-chair of the firm’s International Trade practice and Global Mobility Lead and has over 25 years of experience working as a strategic advisor for a wide range of clients, from emerging growth companies to Fortune 100 multinational conglomerates, on their market entry and global business expansion throughout Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe.  She manages compliance risks for multinational companies regarding cross-border investigations, international transactions,  global mobility and  and international employment, market access, and cross border data privacy.

Pai is a counsel in the International Trade Group in the firm’s Los Angeles office. His practice covers a range of international and trade issues, including international corporate transactions, new market expansion, global mobility and employment, cross border data transfers, supply chain, and trade policy.
