Human Rights First Honors Crowell Team for Pro Bono Efforts

Washington – June 21, 2024: Human Rights First honored Crowell & Moring lawyers Alexis Gilman, Tai Williams, Lauren Fleming, and Amber Gonzales with the Pro Bono Star Award in recognition of their teamwork and extraordinary commitment to representing and protecting asylum seekers. The group was honored at Human Rights First’s World Refugee Day Open House on June 20 in Washington, D.C.
Established in 1978, Human Rights First's mission is to ensure that the United States is a global leader on human rights. The organization works in the United States and abroad to promote respect for human rights and the rule of law. The Crowell team is being recognized for pro bono representation of a woman through her journey to claim asylum in the United States for herself and her daughters.
Gilman is a partner in the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Group based in D.C., where he represents merging parties and third parties in merger investigations by the FTC, DOJ, and state attorneys general. He brings significant prior government experience and knowledge to his client work, having joined the firm after seven years at the FTC, where, as assistant director, he led the 30-attorney Mergers IV Division and worked on some of the agency’s highest-profile matters.
Williams is an associate in the D.C. office and a member of Crowell’s International Dispute Resolution and Health Care groups. She represents foreign and domestic clients in Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and Anti-Terrorism Act litigation, which includes victims of terrorism around the globe. She counsels foreign and domestic entities in disputes that may arise with foreign sovereigns and represents managed care organizations, insurers, and health care providers in complex litigation.
Fleming is an associate in the D.C. office and a member of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Group, where she counsels and represents clients before the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission. She has a wide variety of experience in antitrust issues, including merger reviews, government investigations, and class action litigation.
Gonzales is an associate in the Litigation Group based in Denver. She has an extensive background in commercial litigation, compliance, and regulatory matters, and has advised clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 100 companies. Gonzales has experience in federal and state courts in matters involving class actions, contracts, false advertising and unfair competition, trade secrets, torts, healthcare recovery, and complex commercial litigation. She also has experience representing clients in employment disputes, including enforcing non-solicitation and non-compete agreements.
