Gage Javier Appointed to the District of Columbia Innovation and Technology Inclusion Council

Washington – September 22, 2022: Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser appointed Crowell & Moring associate Garylene (Gage) Javier as the newest councilmember on the District of Columbia Innovation and Technology Inclusion Council.

The Innovation and Technology Inclusion Council (ITIC) advises the mayor and the public on strategies to grow and diversify the District’s innovation and technology economy. The ITIC also counsels the mayor on approaches to increase access and availability of investment capital for technology startups and early stage/growth phase companies in the District, develop and integrate STEM workforce development strategies into the District's comprehensive economic development plan, and cultivate technology entrepreneurship and university-based commercialization to promote innovative growth in the District and in underrepresented communities.

Javier is a member of the firm’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Group, where she practices at the intersection of law, business, and technology. A Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) with a business and scientific background, she provides strategic legal and business solutions for sophisticated entities in matters associated with privacy and cybersecurity regulatory compliance, incident response, and technology-related litigation. Dedicated to working with her clients to reduce their risk profile, Javier is adept at advising clients on data governance issues to address business needs while minimizing risks and complying with a rapidly evolving privacy and cybersecurity regulatory landscape.

Crowell & Moring Represents Nuclear Energy Startup Atomic Alchemy in its Acquisition by Oklo

March 11, 2025: Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO), an advanced nuclear technology company, announced on March 5, 2025 that it has closed the $25 million acquisition of Crowell client Atomic Alchemy Inc. (“Atomic Alchemy”), a leading innovator in radioisotope production. Oklo intends to use this strategic acquisition to establish a more reliable domestic supply chain for high-value radioisotopes critical to healthcare, research, and defense sectors and provides synergies to Oklo’s fuel recycling and nuclear energy businesses. Demand for radioisotopes is expected to increase significantly over the next decade, while global supply struggles to keep pace due to aging reactor infrastructure and a fragmented global supply chain, which at present is dominated by countries outside the United States. Atomic Alchemy intends to be a low-cost U.S. radioisotope producer that can provide a secure and domestic supply of radioisotopes to U.S. companies commercializing innovative radioisotope applications.
