Crowell’s Chief Innovation and Value Officer Alma Asay Honored as an AI Visionary

Firm News | 2 min read | 01.22.24

Washington – January 22, 2024: Relativity named Crowell & Moring’s Chief Innovation and Value Officer Alma Asay a 2024 AI Visionary.

The global legal technology company’s AI Visionaries list recognizes and celebrates changemakers who are reshaping the legal landscape through the Artificial Intelligence industry. Honorees will be recognized at a dinner taking place during Legalweek in New York on January 29.

Asay, an established innovation leader in the legal industry, has led the firm’s response to developments in AI, including as a member of the AI Steering Committee and chair of the Technology Innovation Committee. She has worked closely with administrative departments and practice groups across the firm, and client procurement and legal operations teams, to ensure a coordinated innovation strategy that keeps apace with new developments. As part of client outreach relating to AI, Asay organized a three-part, client-facing CLE series on generative AI last Fall, and launched the firm’s “Evolving AI  Legal and Policy Landscape” tracker to provide regular updates on notable worldwide, state, and local developments relating to generative AI.

Asay started her career as a lawyer at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher before launching Allegory, one of the first cloud-based litigation management platforms. When Allegory was purchased by Integreon Discovery Solutions in 2017, Asay became its chief innovation officer. Later, at Litera Microsystems, she increased the company’s visibility and customer focus through collaborations on thought leadership with industry leaders, strategies to strengthen relationships with global law firms, and insights into the development of technologies focused on lawyers as end users.

Asay notes, “I loved being a lawyer and my career in innovation first came out of finding more efficient ways to do the parts of my job that didn't require a lawyer brain. I want that for more lawyers, that's why I do what I do.”

“It’s been a momentous year for AI advancement and now more than ever it’s important we recognize, invest in, and highlight the people embracing AI in unique ways,” said Phil Saunders, CEO of Relativity. “These individuals should take immense pride in their contributions to the evolution of AI within the legal industry. The AI Visionaries’ accomplishments have laid the groundwork for an inspirational, AI-fueled future, and we look forward to celebrating them.”
