Washington – April 1, 2022: Patexia namedCrowell & Moring as both a Top 20 “Most Active” and “Best Performing” law firm in Section 337 unfair import investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission, according to the 2022 ITC Intelligence Report. The report compares docket data on the 367 firms and 4,628 attorneys that appeared in Section 337 investigations over the past six years.

Crowell notably posted the “Largest Growth” of all firms practicing before the Commission in 2022, having added six active ITC attorneys as a result of its June 2021 combination with Brinks Gilson & Lione.  Combined, the firm now ranks as the 18th Most Active overall.  Moreover, the combined firm maintained its rank as the 13th Best Performing overall based on outcomes achieved for clients.

All three of Crowell’s ITC Section 337 practice co-leads were ranked among the Most Active and Best Performing individual attorneys before the Commission as well:

  • Kathryn L. Clune, who has established Crowell’s practice over the past 15 years, was named a Most Active and Best Performing attorney for respondents defending against unfair import investigations, boosting Crowell’s firm ranking to 11th Best Performing for respondents.
  • Josh Pond, who joined Crowell in 2020, was designated a Most Active and Best Performing attorney overall across both respondents and complainants.
  • Lyle Vander Schaaf, who joined with the Brinks combination in 2021, was identified as a Most Active attorney for respondents and overall.

Crowell’s Intellectual Property Group doubled in size with the 2021 Brinks combination to help clients across the United States and abroad realize the full value of their IP and defend it against unauthorized use. Section 337 litigation presents a number of unique challenges stemming from the intersection of two complex and highly focused areas of law: IP and international trade. Crowell's ITC Section 337 Practice combines world class IP and international trade experience.  These qualities contributed to Law360 naming Crowell as one of 2022’s International Trade Practice Groups of The Year

With Patexia’s data showing Section 337 investigations at the ITC up 30% in frequency since 2019, Crowell is positioned to represent both complainants and respondents in all aspects of these important, intricate investigations.
