Washington – November 7, 2019 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has appointed Crowell & Moring partner Robert Meyers to serve on the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee for a two-year term, ending in August 2021.

The committee consists of 40 senior-level members from state, tribal, and local government, environmental and public interest groups, academics, industry and others, and advises the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on issues related to implementing the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.

In his new role on the committee, Meyers will provide advice and recommendations on:

  • Approaches for new and expanded programs, including those using innovative technologies and policy mechanisms to achieve environmental improvements;
  • The potential health, environmental, and economic effects of Clean Air Act programs on the public, the regulated community, State and local governments, and other Federal agencies;
  • The policy and technical contents of proposed major EPA rulemaking and guidance required by the Act in order to help effectively incorporate appropriate outside advice and information; and
  • The integration of existing policies, regulations, standards, guidelines, and procedures into programs for implementing requirements of the Act.

Meyers has more than three decades of experience in energy, utility, automobile, fuel (including renewable fuel), and agricultural issues, having previously led the Office of Air and Radiation of the EPA—the office charged with implementation of the Clean Air Act. Prior to his work at the agency, Meyers served as Deputy Chief Counsel for Energy and Environment (House Energy and Commerce Committee). As an attorney in Crowell & Moring's Environment & Natural Resources Group, Meyers litigates before U.S. Courts of Appeal and provides counseling, regulatory, and legislative representation for clients on energy and environmental issues, including the Clean Air Act, greenhouse gas regulation, and climate change.
