Crowell & Moring International Dispute Resolution Lawyers Participate in Washington Arbitration Week 2021

Washington – November 24, 2021: Six members of Crowell & Moring’s International Dispute Resolutions Group will participate in panels in Washington Arbitration Week 2021, a forum on international arbitration for the Washington, D.C. legal community and the international and foreign community connected to it.  

  • Ian A. Laird, who co-founded WAW and serves as co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s International Dispute Resolution Group, will participate in a December 1 panel titled “Ethics and International Arbitration: Is it Time for an International Code of Ethics?” The panel will consist of a discussion of the ethical conduct of arbitrators, counsel, and experts in international arbitration, including whether regulation will enhance the legitimacy of the process.
  • Partner Meagan T. Bachman will participate in a November 30 panel titled “COVID Impact on Infrastructure Projects and International Disputes: Update,” which will provide insight on the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic caused within the infrastructure community and provide an update on the future of the industry with regards to disputes.
  • Counsel Ashley R. Riveira will moderate a panel on November 29 entitled “How to Run a Seamless, Efficient and Innovative International Arbitration: The Essential Role of Arbitration Specialists, Paralegals and Legal Assistants in International Arbitration.” The panel will feature Crowell & Moring arbitration specialist Staci Gellman and will discuss how supporting staff in an arbitration have increased in importance in a post-COVID-19 environment with more hybrid activities taking place.
  • On December 1, partner George D. Ruttinger will moderate a panel titled, “Role of the 1982 World Bank Guidelines on the Treatment of Foreign Direct Investment in the Valuation of Going Concerns and Non-Going Concerns.” The panel will tackle issues stemming from the 1982 World Bank Guidelines, including determining if there are alternative methods of valuation of entities and if the Guidelines should be updated.
  • International associate Eduardo Mathison will moderate a December 3 panel entitled “High Political Risk in Investment Arbitration: The Case Study of Venezuela,” which will discuss investment arbitration and dispute resolution in Venezuela under Interim President Juan Guaidó.

Crowell & Moring Represents Nuclear Energy Startup Atomic Alchemy in its Acquisition by Oklo

March 11, 2025: Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO), an advanced nuclear technology company, announced on March 5, 2025 that it has closed the $25 million acquisition of Crowell client Atomic Alchemy Inc. (“Atomic Alchemy”), a leading innovator in radioisotope production. Oklo intends to use this strategic acquisition to establish a more reliable domestic supply chain for high-value radioisotopes critical to healthcare, research, and defense sectors and provides synergies to Oklo’s fuel recycling and nuclear energy businesses. Demand for radioisotopes is expected to increase significantly over the next decade, while global supply struggles to keep pace due to aging reactor infrastructure and a fragmented global supply chain, which at present is dominated by countries outside the United States. Atomic Alchemy intends to be a low-cost U.S. radioisotope producer that can provide a secure and domestic supply of radioisotopes to U.S. companies commercializing innovative radioisotope applications.
