Washington, D.C. – March 9, 2015: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the firm's partnership has elected Angela B. Styles, partner and co-chair of the firm's Government Contracts Group, to succeed Kent A. Gardiner as chair of the firm.

Styles is beginning her third term on the firm's management board and has served as chair of the firm's executive committee. Prior to joining Crowell & Moring in 2007, Styles served in the federal government as Administrator for Federal Procurement Policy within the Office of Management and Budget at the White House, a position that required confirmation by the United States Senate. She also served in other positions in the Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, and state government, including the U.S. General Services Administration, the office of Congressman Joe Barton and the Texas Office of State-Federal Relations.

"I am honored to serve as chair of Crowell & Moring and to be a part of a long tradition of firm leaders who have helped to build a truly unique firm over the past 35 years. Our attorneys and professional staff are the best in the legal industry, and I'll be working closely with them to continue to meet the ever changing challenges faced by our clients, while building on the success we have already achieved," Styles said. "We thank Kent for his extraordinary leadership over the past decade and are excited about the future."

In addition to maintaining an active government contracts practice, Styles will focus on guiding initiatives geared toward maintaining and enhancing the firm's strong litigation and trial capabilities and regulatory prominence, with a particular focus on the healthcare, energy, privacy and cybersecurity sectors.

Gardiner also will continue to manage the practice he maintained during his nine-year tenure as chair of the firm. He focuses on antitrust and other complex litigation, including class actions, antitrust/intellectual property cases, and multi-district litigation. He will also play a key role in steering the direction of the firm's litigation service offerings.

Gardiner completes three consecutive terms as chair with the firm's revenues reflecting a growth rate of 88 percent, from $195.5 million at the beginning of his tenure in 2006 to $368.2 million as of December 2014. During that same time, the firm opened new offices in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Anchorage while the firm's attorney headcount expanded by 44 percent from 339 in 2006 to its current 488. During that time, the firm also received numerous awards and recognitions for its innovation in the legal industry and excellence in litigation, including multiple rankings in the past six years in the annual Financial Times' "Innovative Lawyers" report and distinction in 2013 as the National Law Journal's "Washington, DC Litigation Department of the Year" in the "General Civil Litigation" category.

Reflecting on this period of firm growth and looking ahead, Gardiner remarked, "It has been my honor professionally and personally to serve this dynamic firm. Angela brings a broad range of law firm and public service leadership experience to the position of chair, and I am confident that she will help our talented team of attorneys and professional staff  achieve great things as we look to a future full of both challenges and opportunities for our clients and our firm."
