A Crowell team served as special tax counsel to Sweden-based music investment firm Pophouse Entertainment in its recent acquisition of the music catalogue, brand name, and intellectual property of iconic American rock band Kiss.

Crowell Tax Partners Christine Lane and Carina Federico led the team’s work advising Pophouse on tax questions related to the deal, with assistance from Tax Partner Anthony Provenzano. The deal covers all trademarks of Kiss, including their striking make-up designs and costumes, and will build on Kiss’ legacy worldwide.

Pophouse was co-founded by Bjorn Ulvaeus, a member of the legendary Swedish pop band ABBA, and specializes in obtaining IP rights to create innovative music projects alongside artists and estates. In 2022, Pophouse released ABBA Voyage, a virtual reality concert in London that features ABBA’s music and has sold more than 2 million tickets. Pophouse has already announced plans to create similar experiences with the KISS material, including a show based on digital avatars of band members that is planned to launch in 2027.

With its proprietary VIPR® technology, Atomic Alchemy is building the first scalable production facility to provide a reliable, sustainable source of high-value radioisotopes. Using a vertically integrated model and fuel recycling, in partnership with Oklo, Atomic Alchemy is transforming isotope production to address global shortages, support critical applications, and strengthen national security.
