C&M Client Edith Bartley Speaks with CNN as U.S. Receives $335M from Sudan for Victims of Terrorist Attacks

Washington—April 1, 2021: Crowell & Moring client Edith Bartley was interviewed by CNN in its report that the U.S. has received $335M from Sudan for victims of terrorist attacks. Crowell & Moring has long represented the estates and families of 11 Americans killed in the August 7, 1998, terrorist bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, having won a final judgment in the D.C. District Court in 2014, which was later affirmed by the appellate court and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Bartley, who lost her father and brother in the Kenya bombing and serves as a spokesperson for some of the families of Americans who were also killed in the embassy bombings, spoke with CNN State Department Producer Jennifer Hansler about the development.

"Families of the Americans who were killed in the U.S. Embassy bombings are thankful to the Biden-Harris Administration for following up on the Trump administration's signing of the U.S.-Sudan Bilateral agreement and their efforts to finalize implementation," Bartley told CNN.

Bartley said they "are especially thankful to a bipartisan Congressional coalition that was committed to get the legislation passed last year and which was spearheaded by Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware and supported by Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri, Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey and House and Senate Leadership."
