Your First Steps Towards a Successful Career - Diversity, Inclusion and CV / Application Workshop

Crowell & Moring Brussels is pleased to invite you to the Diversity & Inclusion / First Generation Students Workshop, designed to get you started in the professional world. This workshop is specifically aimed at students (BAC3, MA1 and MA2) from diverse backgrounds and pioneer students (students whose parents do not have a college degree). We want to show you that your cultural and linguistic richness and family background need not be a barrier to your career - quite the contrary!

First, we will give the floor to one of our Crowell diversity alumni (a former summer intern), who will share his or her experience on finding a student internship and the importance of gaining initial work experience (especially for students from diverse backgrounds).

Then our attorneys will explain how the selection process works (e.g., how important it is to go to job fairs) and we will review together how to put together a good resume! Be sure to bring a printout of your current resume so we can work on it together!

After this, we will briefly give the floor to one of our attorneys who also used to be a pioneering student to talk about her path to becoming a attorney.

We will conclude the workshop with a Q&A session to answer any questions. For example, we are thinking of questions such as how to use a resume photo with or without a headscarf or yarmulke and how to highlight your mother tongue.

Maybe you are wondering what is common in “the corporate world” and this possibly unfamiliar setting scares you a bit?

During the reception afterwards you can ask us all the questions that you might not dare to ask at other events or workshops or that people close to you cannot immediately advise you about!

The program:

18u: Reception
18:15: Start workshop
     1. Introduction
     2. Testimony of a diversity alumni
     3. Presentation “How do I make the perfect resume?”
     4. The recruitment process at law firms
     5. Resume workshop - be sure to bring a printout of your current resume so we can work on it together!
     6. Testimony of a first generation professional
20:30: Reception
22h00: End

The workshop will be given in English but everyone can ask questions in Dutch, French or English and the questions will be answered in the language of your choice. There will be no language barrier!

"The Tide is High: New Guidance on Sea-Level Rise," The Bar Association of San Francisco

Jon Welner will be interviewing Larry Goldzband, the Executive Director of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), on the Commission’s new plan to prepare the SF Bay Area for sea-level rise. BCDC is the agency responsible for permitting all development on the shoreline of San Francisco Bay. On December 5, 2024, the BCDC adopted the Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP). The RSAP is a region-wide plan for the San Francisco Bay shoreline that guides the creation of coordinated, locally planned sea level rise adaptation actions that work together to achieve a regional One Bay Vision. This includes BCDC’s guidelines for how local governments must meet the requirements of SB 272, a new State mandate that requires all local governments along the shoreline to prepare a Subregional Shoreline Adaptation Plan by 2034.
