New York – November 22, 2016: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Sarah Gilbert to its New York office as a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation Group. She offers nearly a decade of experience handling complex commercial litigation for leading clients, most notably in the financial services arena.
Gilbert handles complex commercial disputes, from pre-litigation through appeal, with a focus on the financial services sector. She has successfully defended financial services clients against potential multimillion-dollar liabilities. In addition to her experience litigating matters involving consumer fraud, financial torts, unfair competition, and commercial contracts, she focuses her practice on the areas of media law and related intellectual property issues.
“Sarah’s addition builds on Crowell & Moring’s capabilities for handling complex litigation in venues across the United States,” said Gregory D. Call, chair of Crowell & Moring's Commercial Litigation Group. “She will be an invaluable asset for clients, particularly those in the financial services and media arenas. We are excited to welcome Sarah to the firm.”
Edwin Baum, a New York litigation partner and a member of the firm’s Management Board, said, “Sarah is a talented and experienced commercial litigation lawyer who brings added depth to our expanding litigation capabilities in New York.”
Gilbert has represented clients in multiple high-dollar disputes. Notable representations include: defending a securities rating agency in state Attorneys General actions alleging unfair trade practices; defending an insurance carrier in a civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) class action and multiple coverage disputes; defending a major financial institution in mass tort litigation related to the World Trade Center disaster; advising media clients regarding compliance with privacy and data security laws and regulations; and defending an intellectual property holder in trademark infringement and unfair competition litigation.
Gilbert joins the firm from Satterlee Stephens Burke & Burke LLP, where she worked for the past four years and was named a partner in early 2015. She previously served as an associate at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP. Gilbert also clerked for the Honorable Cathy Seibel of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (2009-2010).
“Crowell & Moring understands the diverse legal issues facing major companies and can provide a broad-based platform that will serve my clients well, including when they are confronting their most challenging litigation issues,” Gilbert said. “Crowell & Moring’s lawyers are impressive, smart, and they provide the backbone for an attractive culture that is defined by a strong commitment to pro bono.”
Gilbert received her J.D., with distinction, from Stanford Law School, where she was a member of the Stanford Law Review, and her B.A. from the University of Arkansas. She is admitted to practice in New York and is a member of the New York Women’s Bar Association.
