Washington, D.C. – October 29, 2015: Ellen Moran Dwyer, Crowell & Moring LLP's managing partner, has been named one of Washington's "Most Powerful Women" by Washingtonian magazine.
The honor recognizes more than 100 of the region's most influential women in business, law, government, education, media, nonprofits, and the arts, who "define the agenda and determine the course of action in their enterprises."
In its profile on Dwyer, the Washingtonian described Dwyer as an "expert in labor law" who "spearheaded a program to develop and retain more women and minorities at the firm." The program was the first sponsorship initiative of its kind in the legal industry, and has enhanced the diversity of Crowell's partner ranks.
Dwyer, who has been the firm's managing partner since 2008, is also a member of the firm's Management Board. She has served on the firm's Executive Committee and is the former chair of both the firm's Promotions and Lawyer Development Committees. Dwyer has an active employment practice representing employers in the full array of labor and employment matters, including class action and individual claims filed under federal and state anti-discrimination and related employment laws.
The recipients will be honored at a luncheon on November 18 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. Among the women who will be recognized with Dwyer include first lady Michelle Obama, U.S. National Security Advisor Susan Rice, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice Elena Kagan, and Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor, as well as a variety of other Washington leaders in business, media, and philanthropy—from Diane Rehm to Jean Case.
