Washington, D.C. – March 20, 2006: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the firm's partnership has elected Kent A. Gardiner, member of the firm's Antitrust Group, to succeed John A. Macleod as chairman of the firm.
Gardiner, a former trial attorney with the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, has practiced with the firm for 19 years. He has served with Macleod on the firm's management board and its three-person executive committee for five years.
“I look forward to carrying on a tradition of leadership that champions the values of outstanding client service and integrity that define Crowell & Moring. As chairman, my top priority will be to foster the continued passion for excellence that has driven the firm for the last 26 years,” Gardiner said.
In addition to maintaining an active antitrust litigation practice, Gardiner will focus on efforts to strengthen Crowell & Moring's client service and relationship initiatives, ongoing firm priorities that have fostered client integration among multiple practice groups. Since 2002, the number of clients generating annual revenues of more than $1 million has grown from 11 to 31.
Macleod, who will remain at the firm as senior partner, will assist the leadership team in client relationship and expansion efforts. He completes two consecutive terms as chairman, a position he has held since 2000. During that time, the firm's revenues more than doubled and profits per equity partner increased by 94 percent. The firm also received several awards for its commitment to quality of life and pro bono service, including being named one of Washington Business Journal's “50 Best Places to Work” and receiving the Bar Association of the District of Columbia 's Constance L. Belfiore Quality of Life Award.
In a personal note to the firm, Macleod wrote, “I could not be more enthusiastic about our new leadership team, nor could I be more confident about our future. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you and this fine firm, and I am deeply grateful to my partners for having given me that opportunity.”
In other Crowell & Moring news, the firm's management board has appointed newly elected member David B. Siegel to replace the recently retired Herbert J. Martin as managing partner. Siegel, who has practiced with the firm for nearly 25 years, will work closely with Gardiner on the firm's strategic growth and general management. The firm is also pleased to announce the addition of new management board member Scott L. Winkelman, co-chair of the firm's Torts Group.
