Sanctions & Embargoed Countries

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed trade and other economic sanctions on a variety of countries under nearly two dozen sanctions programs. Trade restrictions target transactions not only with countries that are subject to a U.S. embargo, but also with a growing number of terrorist organizations, drug traffickers, and other designated parties. Although trade restrictions prohibit much economic activity with these parties, certain opportunities still exist. Crowell & Moring's professionals provide clients the following types of services:

  • Advice on numerous restrictions on trade and financial transactions, as well as permissible transactions, licensing requirements, and enforcement activities
  • Assistance with internal investigations and voluntary disclosures
  • Design and implementation of compliance programs
  • Representation during civil and criminal enforcement proceedings
